Farewell

Hey everyone!

So I am going to keep this brief...

I will no longer be keeping up with this blog. As you can already tell, posts are few and far between. I just don't have time anymore and would much rather be spending my time reading for fun and enjoying the books. Also, it's summer and I want to be out and about hanging with my friends and being out in the sun.

It's been real.

Peace!

Burn? Rewrite? Reread?

I saw this tag on Erin's blog, The Hardcover Lover, as well as at Debby's blog, Snuggly Oranges. I can't find who the original creator of Burn, Rewrite, or Reread is and there seems to be confusion on the rules so I'm just going to look at my books on Goodreads, pick from the ones that I've read, then say what I would do to them.

BURN.

REWRITE.

REREAD.

The Longest Ride - MOVIE REVIEW!

I know The Longest Ride came out in April but I've been wanting to write a review for awhile and now I finally have! Check it out :)

I saw The Longest Ride twice when it came out and I had two different experiences with it.

The first time I saw it, I liked it enough but I didn't find it even on par with other Nicholas Sparks movies (A Walk to Remember and Dear John to be more exact). I didn't like Scott Eastwood or Britt Robertson and I thought they were awkward and had no chemistry.

I absolutely looooved the storyline of Ira and Ruth!!! OMG SO GOOD. I honestly wanted the whole movie to just be about them! I loved the old timey age and Ruth was just the cutest thing ever! And Jack Huston as Ira...amazing. I've never seen him in anything but wow, new fan! And Alan Alda as old Ira was just too good! I can't believe I liked the old/adult storyline more then Britt and Scott!

The second time I saw The Longest Ride, I still found myself enjoying Ruth and Ira's storyline the most but I also was able to actually get invested in Britt and Scott and found that they were actually good in this movie! They weren't awkward this time around and I found they had chemistry this time. Scott is sooo cute! Especially the crow's feet around his eyes when he smiles! And I was so glad I liked Britt the second time around because she's actually one of my favorite actresses and I hated that I didn't like her the first time. This second time around let me actually get invested in the movie as a whole and I was able to see that it all worked together quite well!

I have the book of course, but unfortunately I am soooo behind in reading Nicholas Sparks books that I haven't read this one yet. I remember I tried starting it and couldn't get into it so I hope I like it! I've found that if I on't read a book of his first and just see the movie then I absolutely love the movie but if I've read the book then I usually don't like the movie version as well. I am very picky when it comes to Nicholas Sparks!

Jesse's Girl by Miranda Kenneally - PROMOTION

Summary from Goodreads:

Practice Makes Perfect.

Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.

But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?

Everyone who emails teenfire[at]sourcebooks[dot]com will automatically receive an email of the EXCLUSIVE Jesse’s Girl Playlist, and will be invited to attend a LIVE online author event on July 6, the day beforeJesse’s Girl goes on-sale!

In addition, if you pre-order the book and send your proof of purchase (and mailing address) to teenfire[at]sourcebooks[dot]com, you’ll not only get the exclusive playlist and event invite, but you’ll also receive a signed/personalized bookplate, a super-cute custom guitar pick, and entered to win a $300 gift card to TicketMaster so you can go to a concert or musical or some other fun event.

***************

EXCERPT FROM JESSE’S GIRL:

As much as I love music, I am generally not a fan of country. I don’t like banjos. I don’t like sappy lyrics about trucks and hauling hay. Dolly Parton is my mortal enemy—my mom plays “Jolene” over and over and over and over, and it makes me want to chop my ears off like van Gogh. Yeah, yeah, I’m from Tennessee, where it’s a crime if you don’t love country, but I like deep, rumbling beats and singing loud and fast and hard. I do not like closing my eyes and crooning to a cow in the pasture. Yet here I am at a Jesse Scott concert, getting ready to meet him and to see if he’ll let me shadow him next Friday.

My school requires every senior to “shadow” a professional for a day. It’s their way of helping us figure out what kind of career we want. Like, if you want to be president when you grow up, you might get to shadow the mayor. Want to be a chef? Have fun kneading dough at the Donut Palace. When I said “I want to be a musician,” I figured they’d send me to work in the electronics section at Walmart.

I certainly never expected to shadow the king of country music.

It turns out that Jesse Scott is my principal’s nephew. Jesse won TV’s Wannabe Rocker when he was ten and has gone on to become very successful. In sixth grade, every girl in class—myself included—took the Teen Beat quiz: “Would Jesse Scott Like Your Kissing Style?” (Obviously the answer was yes.) In middle school, I had a Jesse Scott poster on my ceiling. It’s hard to believe he’s only eighteen, because he’s already won three Grammys. When he was younger, his songs were about family, fishing, and playing baseball, but lately they’re about love and making love and all things sexy.

I wouldn’t say I’m a fan anymore, but I would never give up an opportunity to learn from a professional with such a gorgeous, pure voice. I want to learn what it’s like to perform day in and day out. Despite what everyone and their mom says—that I’ll struggle as a musician—all I want is to play guitar in front of a crowd and hear people cheer for me.

I can’t believe I’m backstage at the Grand Ole Opry! I bounce on my toes. Jesus, is that an archtop Super 4, the model Elvis played? I’ve never seen one in real life. It probably cost more than my house. I’m ogling the guitar when Jesse Scott comes out of the bathroom, drying his hair with a towel. He pads across the room to the couch, wearing nothing but a pair of rugged jeans with more holes than Swiss cheese. The lighting is dim, and he doesn’t seem to notice I’m here, which is good, because I’ve moved from ogling the guitar to ogling him.

Who wouldn’t? He was one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People,” and it is a truth universally acknowledged that you should stare at people who’ve made that list. The guy’s gorgeous. Like in the boy-next-door way. His wet, wavy, brown hair curls around his ears and nearly hits his shoulders, and while he doesn’t have a six-pack or anything, his body is fit. I wish he’d look my way so I can see his famous brown eyes. They always remind me of those caramel chews Poppy gives me when I visit. Jesse has some sort of Gaelic symbol tattooed on his left shoulder blade. I want to reach out and trace the design.

God, get ahold of yourself, Maya. Don’t be a horndog. Besides, he’s so not my type. I don’t do pretty boys.

IT'S MY TWO YEAR BLOGOVERSARY!!!

Wow...another year down...I can't believe my blog has been going for TWO years today! It's all flying by so fast. These last few months have been very difficult and stressful with trying to make living in Utah work again and just a lot of other things going on with work and life that I have no giveaway this time :/ I really wanted to but unfortunately other things have taken priority. I am trying to get back into reading as much as possible but working two jobs morning to night and trying to have a social life is making it tough. I also have the worst Internet connection in my employee housing still even though most everyone has moved out for the summer so that continues to be a struggle and I don't bother scheduling tweets anymore because of it.

This is a short celebration but if you've continued to check out my posts every now and then, THANK YOU! I miss talking to all of you and hope to somehow find a way to get back on track!

Gone Girl - MOVIE REVIEW

 I FINALLY SAW GONE GIRL.

OH. EM. GEE.

GONE GIRL IS A MASTERPIECE. FOR REAL.

I swore I was not going to watch this movie until I read the book but my friend leant me the movie and I completely forgot it was a book so I watched the movie. Now of course, I don't want to read the book (oops...) I thought I was going to have a really hard time watching the movie because I was dreading the fact that it's like a THREE hour movie...but I was hooked from the moment it started.

The movie flowed so perfectly from scene to scene. Ben Affleck, who I am not normally a fan of, was actually pretty cool. His character really confused me though when he posed for pictures smiling and things like that but my sister said that's how he is in the book. Rosamund Pike did good but I really don't get why she was nominated for awards...

The twist was AWESOME. AND THEN THAT SCENE WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS. OMG I JUST CAN'T. I am obviously not going to share anything in case there's other people out there who have not seen Gone Girl yet or have been waiting like I did. But I really hope everyone sees this movie! I'm recommending to everyone I talk to!

The DUFF - Movie Review

I'M IN LOVE WITH THE DUFF.

OMG it was amazing and is my favorite movie of the year so far! I could not stop laughing the entire time and I thought the cast was the best!

Now, I haven't read the book (now I want to) and I know people are obviously mad because they changed apparently a lot of it but I'm just so giddy over this movie! It felt like Mean Girls to me but A MILLION TIMES BETTER.

Mae Whitman and Robbie Amell's chemistry was soooo good and I am so glad they got to be in this together! I think I've only seen Mae in Perks of Being a Wallflower but I'm definitely a new fan now! And Robbie, I've loved forever.

Bella Thorne was awesome, too. But has anyone noticed her face? Like I'm a bazillion percent positive that she has had lip work and I don't like it.

I really can't remember too much of the movie but I really think everyone should go see this movie! I don't like the idea of someone being "The DUFF" but it's all in good fun! (I'm pretty sure I'm the Duff with my friends but only in the sense that I end up being the wing woman and my friends get the guys. Not that I'm ugly or fat.)

Oh, but omg the ending at the dance with Robbie and Mae...RIP ME. I love Robbie's real life fiancee but I really want Robbie and Mae to get together.

Now, let's enjoy some Robbie Amell:

THE ARMS.

THE SMILE.

THE BODY.

50 Shades of Grey - Movie Review

I did it. I saw 50 Shades of Grey. A movie I never thought I would ever go see and one that I swore up and down no one was ever going to convince me to see.

And guess what.

I liked it!

I'm still shocked by this fact. I definitely didn't love it but here's how it went for me...

I liked it, then I got so bored that I wanted to walk out, then the sex scenes started happening (they really leave you hanging with those), then I hated the movie ("sexual beatings" = NO THANK YOU), then THE CLIFFHANGER...OMG now I'm HOOKED!

I tried reading the book like a year ago and couldn't even make it 20 pages because the writing is SO BAD. But now I'm dying to try reading them again because I am hardcore invested in Anna and Christian. I definitely do not like the sex though and am not about that dominance stuff or whips or anything but JAMIE DORNAN IS HOT. Only as Christian though because he doesn't have all the awful facial hair that he does IRL.

LIKE:

DON'T LIKE:

Also, Dakota Johnson was perfect as Anna! I loved the casting and even though they are super awkward IRL, I think they work perfectly together. There's rumors going around that Jamie won't be in the next one and if that's the case, then I'm going to PO'd that I wasted my time seeing the first movie. HE IS CHRISTIAN GREY. No one can replace him.

The soundtrack also helped me enjoy the movie, too!

Side note: I work at a movie theater, so we had the movie there. This old guy came out when the movie was done and said to me "Here's a little advice for you. Spanking is a good thing, but too much of it can be a bad thing." I WAS SHOCKED. I really didn't need to hear that from an old guy! But it was funny!

Last side note: Dakota looked FAB at the Oscars!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I can't believe it's 2015!

O.M.G.

How was everyone's New Year's celebrations?!

Now that's it's January, my TWO YEAR BLOGOVERSARY is only like FIVE MONTHS AWAY. Whaaaat. I'm hoping to be able to do an even bigger celebration this year! Fingers crossed!

I am changing my rating system. Instead of a scale of 1-10, I'm going to do 1-5 like Goodreads, but instead of assigning stars or just a number, I am going to be finding clip art on Google of an image that pertains to the book the review is about. For example, my review for Nantucket Blue will be coming up, so you will see sail boats. The number of sail boats will tell you what number out of 5, I gave that book! :)

To check out my resolutions, refer to my Top Ten Tuesday post from two days ago! I WAS SO CLOSE TO READING 100 BOOKS :(  :(  :(  :(

Lastly, I want to say thank you to all my follower and blogging friends. You guys rock and let's make this year the best yet for reading and blogging!
