Synopsis:
What if the next new drug was you? Raleigh’s body produces a drug that could define the future of medicine if the dangerous world surrounding it doesn’t kill her first.

Eighteen-year old Raleigh Groves can sense disease in others and is suffering from her own unexplained illness as well. After years and dozens of doctor visits, she has given up hope of ever finding a cure, let alone a diagnosis. Then she meets a man who explains that her talent and curse are linked. Her body produces a drug, Lucidin, which allows her to sense others. She’s rare, and the drug she makes is coveted.

Rho has spent the last few years on the run. The Lucidin that is racing through his system makes him a target. Surrounded by addicts and dealers on one side and scientists and doctors on the other, he has to rely on his wits and his team to stay one step ahead. So far he has stayed afloat, but some of his brothers haven’t been as lucky.

As Rho and Raleigh collide they must face the perilous world of Lucidin together. Nothing is black-and-white and Raleigh must decide where her alliances lie. Sometimes the hardest heart to sense is your own.

EXCERPT:

Rho took a long breath and sighed with relief. Unlike most prisons, his had no bars or locked gates.

The drugs and fatigue were enough to trap him in his own body—but not for much longer. He would make his escape today. His captors were unlikely to lower the extraction and sedative dose any more than they just had, so he had to make his move. He would do it tonight, when the second team came to check on him.

Today was the first day in a long time that he was aware of each and every moment. He darted his eyes across the room. A small seagull was preening itself on the windowsill. One of the guards had once asked why there weren’t bars on the window. The answer was that the drop would likely kill Rho, and even if he survived the current would pull him under. Occasionally he’d heard people speaking in French, and he figured that he must be somewhere along the French coast.

Knowing that he could die while making his escape, he savored the hours. Part of him wanted to reflect on his life, but he pushed those thoughts out of his mind as soon as they arose. Those thoughts too closely resembled grieving, and he wasn’t about to grieve the life that he was fighting to save….

The sunset was particularly beautiful. Mauve and azure hues playfully painted his room, as though Mother Nature wasn’t aware of the suffering he endured. Maybe she was aware of his suffering—and glad to see it. After all, he was an affront to her.

Rho heard voices as the evening pair opened the door to his room. Of all the teams, Rho was most familiar with this one. These two talked the most, and the young man had once taken a phone call in the room, but he was swiftly reprimanded by the old man. The young, unsure little attendant asked a lot of questions, and although the old man seemed to be aggravated by his companion’s inquires, he always answered.

“The morning crew said he was doing poorly,” the old man said in a sure, deep voice.

“They turned down the machine again. He’s not giving us as much Lucid,” noted the young man as he retrieved the vials.

“From the look of his vitals, he’ll only last a few more days.”

“He’s going to die, isn’t he?” asked the young man. Despite his current job, he wasn’t the heartless kind.

“The world will be better off. He’s dangerous. They’re monsters…all of them. Don’t let his angelic looks fool you. He’s the devil.”

Rho wasn’t sure if the last part was true, but the part about him being dangerous certainly was.

Publication date: May 19th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Science Fiction, Thriller

Synopsis:
What the mind forgets, the heart remembers.

Alone in a train station bathroom, Sophia Hernandez has no memory of who she is or how she got there. All she’s certain of are three things: her college ID is a lie, bad people are coming for her, and no one can be trusted.

The only clue to her past is the fellow student who finds her. Although Sophia’s gut tells her Kyle is lying when he claims he can’t help her, his touch makes her heart race. Is it because of a red-hot natural attraction, or a missing memory of something far more dangerous?

As two mysterious, menacing men chase them from the station, Sophia’s memories return in frustrating fragments. So do deadly skills she didn’t know she had. In the next forty-eight hours, a loved one’s life will be on the line as she sifts through a mounting tangle of secrets and lies.
Including the most heart-wrenching secret of all. Not only isn’t she a normal college student, she isn’t even a normal human.

Warning: Contains one girl who is more than she seems, one boy who knows more than he’s telling, and enough twists to give you whiplash. Expect explosions of all kinds.

EXCERPT

“You okay?” Kyle asks. “More coming back?”

“Yeah, but nothing useful.” That’s a stretch, although I wouldn’t classify my memories about AnChlor or Kyle’s weird snooping as useful so much as revealing. Mostly of things I’m not sure I want to know.

Part of me is tempted once more to confront Kyle, but something stills my tongue. Another training instinct, I think. Kyle doesn’t realize that I know something about him. It might be useful to keep that memory to myself.

“Something’s got to be better than nothing,” he says.

The elevator dings and the doors open, depositing us on a random floor. The décor in this part of the building is very different. Instead of warm earth tones, the walls are white and sterile. I can’t help but think they give off an unfriendly vibe—lab-like. I don’t care for this section at all.

“Are you still angry at me?” Kyle asks.

We back up against the wall as a technician comes through. She pushes some kind of machine on wheels, and I wait for her to pass before answering. Her purple scrubs look totally cheery and out of place.

Although I’m fairly sure I shouldn’t trust him, I offer Kyle a weak smile. “I’m not angry. Just frustrated, and I’m sorry I snapped at you. I remember when you asked me out. You had a leaf in your hair. Did you know that?”

I didn’t. Not until the words came out of my mouth. Why aren’t the pleasant memories returning in as much detail as the unpleasant? Life is so unfair.

“I did?” Kyle runs his hand through his hair, then seems to realize what he’s doing. “That’s humiliating.”

“I liked the leaf. It was a souvenir of rolling on the grass together.” My brain doesn’t remember that either, not consciously. But whoa—my body sure does.

“Yeah? Well, I liked rolling on the grass together.” He takes my hands, tentatively, like he’s afraid I’ll twist his arms again. Then suddenly he’s standing so close. And getting closer. My back hits the wall, and I’m glad it’s there, supporting me.

Is it wrong that, in this moment, I don’t care if Kyle is this nameless enemy of mine? I want to pull him against me the rest of the way. Press my lips into his and his body into mine. Make myself forget all the unpleasant things I’m starting to remember and create newer, better memories. I’m burning up in my clothes and don’t care about anything else.

His nose touches mine. The gap between us is narrower than ever. Yet as I hold my breath, it’s achingly wide.

Then a door opens down the hall, and my eyes open.

Run.

Hooked by Christine Manzari - BLOG TOUR!

Hooked by Christine Manzari
Publication date: February 3rd 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Goodreads

Synopsis:
If you ask the confident and snarky skater girl, and she’s in the mood to share, she’ll tell you her name is Cat. She might even tell you that she’s hooked on graffiti, 80s movies, and having fun—the riskier the better. Cat will share a good time with you, but she won’t ever trust you enough to share her heart. It’s protected by secrets and she’d like to keep it that way.

Cat knows one thing for certain: Love isn’t really her thing.

If you ask the confident and rich pretty boy, he might tell you his name is Huck. He might even tell you he loves a challenge and is used to getting his way. He won’t tell you that his life is a mess because he risked his heart by trusting the wrong girl. Huck is ready for a change, he just wasn’t ready to get hooked on someone like Cat.

Huck knows one thing for certain: Love hasn’t done him any favors, but Cat just might be worth the risk.

Cat and Huck think a one-night stand seems harmless, but when all the little secrets they didn’t share turn out to be toxic truths, they realize how easily a one-night stand (or a few) could ruin everything.

The thing is, you can be ruined in more than one way. Once you’re HOOKED, what wouldn’t you risk for the chance at more?

MY REVIEW:

Hooked is one steamy read! OMG. That's first thing I think of when I think of this book. I was dying during every sexy scene between Huck and Cat. But besides that, what I really loved was all of the characters! I think it's the first time where I actually liked all of the characters and everyone had really good chemistry with each other! Cat is edgy and independent and a very private person and we get to see her try to learn how to let love in and not run away from it even when times get tough! I thought Cat and her mom would have a hate relationship and I expected a lot more cliches as well but I was actually surprised by a lot that happened in here! Overall, Hooked had me hooked and I feel like I already miss Huck and Cat!

Rock & Release by Riley Edgewood - BLOG TOUR

Rock & Release by Riley Edgewood
Publication date: January 5th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Goodreads

Synopsis:
Formerly released as a three-act serial, Rock & Release contains all three acts (VIP, Starstruck, & Show Stopper) together in one complete novel.

Cassidy Evans is looking for an escape over her college summer break. And when one night with a few too many martinis leads her to sexy guitarist, Gage Logan, she may have found exactly what she needs.

He’s hot and he’s sweet, and in the bedroom he’s enough to make Cassidy forget her own name. Multiple times. But as her heart opens to Gage, feelings she’s been trying to avoid slip through, too. Regret over her rocky relationship with her parents. Pain from her brother’s recent death. Guilt over a fallout with her best friend… As much as she craves Gage, she can’t unlock her heart the way she feels he deserves.

Enter Luca James, international rock star and lead singer for Gold Rush Standard. Cassidy can’t stand his music. She can’t stand his arrogance. And, when he sets his sights on more than the drinks she serves him, she especially can’t stand how she’s drawn to his no-strings-attached flirting.

Soon Cassidy will have to make a choice: ignore her heart and go after the carefree life she covets, or stand strong to face a bittersweet reality.

Either way, she risks losing everything she truly wants.

MY REVIEW:

Rock & Release was so fun! I actually liked this New Adult book! I love that both of Cassidy's love interests are musicians because in my imaginary world, I'm totally with someone famous! I really liked Cassidy overall and I can definitely relate to her and how much she runs away from life all of the time. I liked that I got to read all three parts to this book because I was definitely hooked and did not want to stop reading! Some of the story was predictable but still very enjoyable and I just really liked the music aspect and the idea of working at a bar/concert venue for the Summer. Cassidy was a little annoying at times because she was self-absorbed but I liked seeing her grow and change and making new decisions with her life. I would've also liked to have seem Gage have more of a storyline with his music and learn more about that side of him...maybe another spinoff?! I think this book is perfect to read now as Summer is coming up and I'm super excited that Riley Edgewood has another spinoff coming out called Surf & Surrender! I'm not sure how I'll feel reading about Quinn (who is Cassidy's roommate in college) but I'm excited to at least try it.

Bitter Sweet Love by R.C. Stephens - Blog Tour

Bitter Sweet Love by R.C. Stephens
(Twisted Series #1)
Publication date: January 18th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Goodreads

Synopsis:
After enduring an abusive childhood and having her heart broken by the only boy she trusts, Alexis White vows to never let anyone hurt her again. She’s left her troubled past behind and starts a new life at college. For the past seven years, her social calendar has been filled with frat parties, drinking, and meaningless sexual hook-ups. Until one night she unexpectedly gets saved by a tall, dark, and handsome French foreigner, Luc Blanchard. He’s charming, sophisticated, and very interested in Lexi, who has presented herself as a challenge when she tells him relationships aren’t her thing.

She finds herself sucked in by his own intriguing past. But everything changes when Dylan Priestley, the gorgeous boy who broke her heart and shattered her faith in friendship and love, suddenly shows up in her life again while back home on a visit. Dylan doesn’t hide his feelings for Lexi, but she can’t forgive or forget being betrayed by the one person she ever truly loved.

Despite the pain Dylan’s caused her, Lexi is once again drawn to the blue-eyed-boy-next-door. Will Lexi choose the man who seems perfect but hides a dark side or the boy who smashed her heart into pieces so many years ago?

MY REVIEW:

I've been trying to branch out and start trying New Adult books and so far they aren't really great. I found Bitter Sweet Love to be too much like a soap opera for me. I liked Anna and Lex, the main characters, but had a hard time with the guys. Also, the writing wasn't great to me. I don't know of any guy who calls a girl his "Angel" over and over. And Dylan and Lex's storyline was pretty bad...I feel like Lex makes a big deal about what happened in the past with her and Dylan when it certainly doesn't seem like anything. I didn't find the writing of the guys and their POV's to be believable - at least from the experiences I've had. Even though I didn't like the writing, the abuse aspect still came through pretty strong and freaked me out. What I do like about reading New Adult, is getting the college experience that isn't normally in Young Adult and the characters are my age. But I still enjoy living in my teenage fantasy land more. Bitter Sweet Love is a trilogy and there is a cliffhanger but while I was so roped up in the story (which is a good thing), I didn't even realize when the book was over. I had to triple check because I was like "that's it?" I didn't get invested enough in the story or characters because the cliffhanger didn't even shock me. I think that I still need to get used to New Adult books though because I really think the writing style and the characters' voices in NA are what is throwing me off and not letting me connect.

Genres: Contemporary, New Adult

Synopsis:
Country music hopeful, Kennedy Masters is a leap-before-you-look type of woman. Live in the moment, the here and now. That’s her policy – anything other than that is boring, and she’s never been particularly interested in boring. So, when she makes the irratic decision to join country music’s reigning star, Mick Callahan, on his tour bus after a show, she’s just living right up to her life’s motto.

The only problem? Her snap decision making lands her on the front page news and it’s for less than desireable reasons. Even worse is the fact that Mick decides she’s his next conquest, irratically announcing to the public that they’re engaged.

Her only option? Hiding out at the Callahan Ranch until the storm blows over – a decision that she’s not altogether pleased with, but one that she must follow considering the circumstances. When unexpected sparks fly upon meeting Mick’s mysterious older brother, Griff Callahan, Kennedy’s left sorting through matters of the heart – something that’s not exactly her forte.

And her career? Well, it’s been labeled TBD.

Kennedy must figure out a way to deal with her heart and her career, all while fighting her own feelings and fending off someone else’s.

Purchase links: Amazon /// Barnes & Noble

Here's an excerpt:

“You’re not mad?” I questioned hesitantly.

“At you? For Mick’s distorted view of reality?” he questioned. I shrugged in response. “No, of course not.”

I released an audible breath. “Oh, thank God.”

“You thought I was angry…at you?”

“Well, we haven’t been alone to discuss everything since it happened…and I…when you said…” I stuttered, trying to find my verbal footing. “You said we’d talk in the guest room and I just kind of took that to mean-“

“Good God, what kind of men have you been with?”

“I-“

He placed his hands suddenly on my thighs. “Never mind. Don’t answer that.”

I hadn’t planned on it. Especially since I could now compare what a real man was like to all the losers I’d dated in the past and the two didn’t compare at all. Not in the slightest.

"You ready to define this?” he questioned, his fingers enveloping my thighs. He squeezed softly, urging me into response.

"What's that?" I questioned, gripping the arms of the chair.

"Us. You and me,” he clarified.

“But I thought you were clear on wanting to take things slowly, one day at a time.”

“I was,” he said roughly as his hands slid up my thighs, his fingers dangerously close to my center. “Right up until I saw his mouth on yours.” His voice had sunk into an all-out growl again, his words chillingly bitter. “The thought of it was unnerving, but the sight? The sight was enough to bring my blood to a boil.”

I sunk back into my chair, the placement of his hands throwing me off kilter. "I think you know how I feel. The other night, in the condo, I told you…"

"Then say it again," he cut in. “But this time, let’s be a bit more clear.”

Very little separated Griff’s fingers from me. I was, however, thankful that my bathing suit was still a little damp. Maybe then he couldn’t attribute all of the moisture between my legs to the effect he was having on me.

"I-I…dammit I want you, Griff," I whispered, my tongue flicking out nervously to lick my lips. "I can't recall ever wanting anything more and I'm not just talking about sleeping with you. I want something that I'm not sure you're willing to give, something I've never wanted before."

"Oh, I’m certain that that’s not true," he said, his face being illuminated by the fire. I'd never seen anything more handsome in my life. “Because there’s not a single thing that you couldn’t ask me right now that I wouldn’t be willing to give you. I want all of you. Every last piece and it scares me how far I'd be willing to go to get it."

My stomach tightened at what I was hearing, his words confirming further that we were both on the same page. I’d never been around a man like Griff – so sure of himself, so willing to say what he felt with no reservations, without pretense. “So, where does that leave us?” I questioned hesitantly.

"I don’t know exactly, but here’s what I do know,” he said, his fingers sliding beneath the thin fabric. He ran a thumb over my sensitive need, the suddenness of the feeling that it provoked causing my head to jerk backwards and my body to arch up towards him. “I know that this is mine,” he mumbled, dipping a finger inside of my wet folds to prove his point. “You are mine,” he grumbled as he jerked my body down until it rested awkwardly on the edge of the chair. His eyes met mine for little more than a millisecond before he leaned forward, his fingers being replaced by his lips as he pushed the elastic fabric to the side.

The tip of his tongue traced across my folds, tickling the skin, creating a furious stirring within. My fingers gripped the arms of the chair for balance as he parted me with such force I thought it’d knock both me and the chair over, the sensations rushing through me with the speed of lightning.

“Griff,” I gasped, barely able to speak, much less breath.

He pushed the bathing suit cover-up over my hips, his fingers working to untie the strings on either side of the bikini bottoms. I lifted so that he could remove the item of clothing completely. He gripped the fabric hungrily in his palm before resuming his position between my thighs. Free from the limitations of the bathing suit, his mouth closed over my clitoris, clamping down hard before settling into a circular pattern. His hands made their way to my bottom, gripping the cheeks roughly. With every possessive grasp he performed on my backside, it drove his tongue harder onto my center. I was hit with a wave of sensation that I hadn’t prepared myself for, my body jerking chaotically, nearly sending us both sprawling onto the floor.

He worked to steady me, a mischievous gleam dancing in his eyes. “Easy, Baby.”

I blushed, unable to respond. My senses took over instead as I pushed off of the chair, knocking him backwards onto the grass. He landed with a loud oomph, my hips grinding down reflexively on the erection that I felt between my thighs. He moaned, grabbing for my hips to impede them.

“You’re killing me, Kennedy.”

“That's exactly what I'm afraid you're going to do to me with this thing,” I said, grinding down onto him again despite his requests for me to do the contrary.

Springing forward, he pulled me against his chest as he thrust upwards. "So I measure up to your standards?"

"I'm not certain that I've ever had someone as large as you," I admitted, the words bringing another blush to my cheeks.

"I'll be sure to take it slow the first time," he assured me. Sighing roughly, he pulled me into a delicious kiss, our tongues doing what our bodies couldn't. “Let’s get out of here,” he whispered against my lips.

"Where are we headed?"

"Somewhere that we can be alone."

However reluctant I was to give up my position over top of him, I did so anyway. We were a safe enough distance from the house for foreplay, but not near far enough for the real thing. I stood quickly, helping to pull him into a standing position before readjusting my cover-up to hide what wasn’t hidden underneath. He picked my bathing suit bottom up off of the ground, curling it into his fist.

“Aren’t you going to give those back to me?” I questioned, embarrassed at the thought of going commando to our unknown, intended destination.

“Of course,” he said, “as soon as I’m done with you.”

Good Lord, he was going to be the death of me. I’d never had someone make me feel so devilishly sexy, but embarrassed at the same time.

He grabbed for my hand, leading the way as we did a large sweeping circle around the house in an effort to remain covert. We made it to his truck, my voice breathless with anticipation. "But won't they ask questions?"

He shrugged. "Frankly, I don’t really give a damn. I’m so horny and pent up, I could hunt with this thing,” he said, referencing the erection pressing angrily against his jeans. “And if they do, I'll be more than happy to tell them exactly where they can go with their questions."

More than anything she loves the time she has with her own teenage daughters and wishes she could freeze them at this fun age. She has since branched off to write a mystery, Gravediggers, that won Best YA novel of 2013, a contemporary romance, Confessions of a 16-Year-Old Virgin Lips, and two in a spy series, Adrenaline Rush and Hotwire.

MY REVIEW:
I'm continued to be pleasantly surprised by Cindy Hogan's books. I've read Gravediggers, Adrenaline Rush, and now Hotwire and I found myself to be speeding through Hotwire once I got through the first 80 pages or so! The story is about Christy going undercover to take down some car thieves but WOW there was so much more going on then I ever saw coming! The twists and turns reminded me of Escape From Eden by Elisa Nader and just really brought the story to a whole new level. My favorite moments besides all of the crazy, scary events were between Christy and Ace and Christy and Carson. Mikado also ended up being one of my favorites even though he wasn't in the story too much. Hotwire is actually book 2 in the Christy books which I didn't know so I haven't read it yet. But Hotwire reads very well as a standalone and I had no trouble following along at all! If you haven't checked out Hogan's books, I would definitely start with either Hotwire or Adrenaline Rush!

My review:
Escape From Eden was SO SO SO GOOD - the description mentions scandalous secrets and boy there are so many crazy secrets! I have never read a book like this before because I usually stick to my fluffy, happy books but I am so glad I read this one! From the moment I started I just did not want to put it down! I wanted to keep reading to find out what was really going on in Edenton! Once I found out what was going on, I was terrified. It was like a movie - just a really fast paced, edge of your seat thriller that kept you wondering how or if Mia would escape. I'm not exactly religious and anything that features religion kind of freaks me out and makes me hesitant to read it but the way it was incorporated in here was perfect and so creepy! I loved Mia and Gabriel and all of the other characters. Gabriel was such a smartass and I LOVED IT. I really just honestly had no issues with this book, I enjoyed every bit of it! I just wish I could share spoilers because I really want to talk about all of the crazy secrets! And I just so badly want to share something that Gabriel said at the end of the book because it's so flippin' CUTE.

My Review!
This book was really good! I read it in 24 hours and didn't want to put it down! The title is so fitting and the book really is a rush! It reminds me of The Hunger Games and the Lux series. There is a religion aspect to the book, just like Hogan's other book Gravediggers but it's not necessarily at the forefront. Hogan's books feature characters who are put in tough situations and it's up to them to believe and have hope and teach themselves this! I was proud of myself for calling one of the big surprises in there and bummed one of my guesses was wrong haha! I like that the book made me wary of a lot of the characters, I love guessing games like that! If you're looking for a fun, crazy book to read that will give you an adrenaline rush then read this!

She is taken to the North Pole, to a reform school run by elves determined to make her love Christmas. Stuck in a misfit group of fellow Christmas-haters with a motley crew of the weird and even weirder, watched over by elves day and night, she doesn’t expect to meet cute and funny Luke, who is hiding a vulnerable side beneath his sarcastic exterior. She doesn’t expect to fall in love with him.

But all is not as it should be at the North Pole. A certain Mr Claus is making the elves’ lives a misery, and pretty soon Mistletoe and Luke are doing more than just learning to like Christmas.

A YA romantic comedy in which Santa is the bad guy, teaching reindeer to fly is on the curriculum, and zombies have a fondness for Christmas music.

Suitable for older teens and upwards due to bad language.

Here is an excerpt! :)
It started with a purple moose.

At least I thought it was a moose. On reflection, it could have been a reindeer, but it didn’t matter at the time because it was obviously just a dream.

“Mistletoe,” the moose-reindeer said.

Yep. Still hate my parents for naming me that.

“Mistletoe,” it said again in a spooky echo of a voice, “I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined, and I have come to tell you something.”

“Go away.” I turned over in bed.

“Mistletoe Bell,” it said sharply. “Listen to me right now.”

I sat up, suddenly wide awake. God, what a freaky dream.

“Mistletoe Bell,” it said again. I jumped out of my skin. I clutched the duvet to me as I turned around. Of all the things I expected to see, the purple moose sitting in the middle of my carpet and looking annoyed was about the last of them.

“Wh… what are you?” I asked quietly. I didn’t really believe my eyes. I must still be dreaming.

“I’ve tried to tell you already. I am the Ghost of Christmases Ruined.”

I tried to pinch myself awake without the moose noticing. It didn’t work. I didn’t wake up and the moose noticed.

“It won’t work,” the moose said. “You’re already awake.”

“I’m looking at a talking purple moose. I don’t think so.”

“You are Mistletoe Bell?” the moose asked.

I dropped my head into my hands and edged closer to the other side of the bed.

The moose continued to look at me expectantly.

“Unfortunately, yes. I couldn’t be anyone else with that stupid name.”

“It’s a very nice Christmas name.”

“That’s exactly the bloody problem. You try having a stupid Christmassy name in the middle of July or something.”

“Ah yes, but it’s December now.”

“Screw December,” I muttered.

“Aha,” the moose said. “This is exactly why I’m here.”

I gave it an angry look. “What the hell are you going on about?”

“Well, if you’d be so kind as to allow me to get to my point, I will enlighten you.”

I sighed in frustration.

“Mistletoe Bell,” the moose said, “you have been charged with ruining Christmas. Multiple counts over the years, but a particularly aggressive case this year when taking into account the fire—”

“The fire was an accident.”

It gave me a glare and I rolled my eyes. “Please go on,” I said, complete with a sarcastic hand gesture.

“As I was saying…” The moose had an annoyed tone to its voice now. “Ruining Christmas, multiple counts, we can’t let it continue. We’ve been keeping an eye on you for a while now. We were actually hoping you might grow out of it now you’re nearly seventeen, but the fire this year is the final straw. Mistletoe—”

“Please stop calling me that.” I interrupted it again. “It’s Mis, Misty, or nothing.”

The moose rolled its eyes. “I am required to call you by your proper name at all times. Now, can we get on with it?”

“Get on with what?”

“Mistletoe Bell, tomorrow you will be taken to the North Pole where you will stay until you can learn how to behave acceptably and stop ruining Christmas for others. You will be part of a group who will learn the value of Christmas to all involved.”

“That’s ridiculous. Who’s going to teach me? The polar bears?”

“The elves will teach you.”

“Of course they will.” I smacked my forehead. “Of course there are elves. I don’t know why I expected anything else from a purple moose.”

The moose made a frustrated noise. “Mistletoe, do you understand?”

“I will be taken to the North Pole and taught by elves? Yes, I understand perfectly.”

“I must be on my way. Sweet dreams, Mistletoe.” The moose got up and jumped out of the window.

I rolled over and went back to sleep. I must’ve eaten cheese before bed last night or something.

There were more weird dreams. I dreamt of flying above the rooftops and over the oceans, and it was really, really cold. I’m pretty sure I could hear strains of “Walking in the Air” in the distance.
