Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend - Katie Finn

Summary from Goodreads:

Hot sun. Blue waves. New romances. Old secrets.

Gemma had her summer all planned out, but it takes a sharp turn when she gets dumped and finds herself back in the Hamptons after a five-year absence.

Being there puts her at risk of bumping into Hallie, her former best friends (that is, before Gemma ruined her life). But people don't hold grudges forever. Do they?

Gemma intends on making amends, but a small case of mistaken identity causes the people she knew years ago—including Hallie and her dreamy brother, Josh—to believe she's someone else. As though the summer wasn't complicated enough already.
So as we all know, Broken Hearts is written by Morgan Matson and I've got quite mixed feelings about this one! I've never read anything by Morgan but everyone has said such good things about her! Broken Hearts was a let down in a way though. First, there were quite a few grammar errors and misspellings which surprised me. Apparently she does some Top 8 series which seems kid-ish to me and once I saw the mistakes, I felt like maybe "Katie Finn" just isn't that great of a writer. I do have Second Chance Summer and Since You've Been Gone (which I'm really excited to read) but I'm worried now to see how Morgan writes. I also felt like there was a lot of pointless things to this story - too much description of every little thing that Gemma is doing and not enough plot. It wasn't until the very end that anything major happened. And I didn't like the romance plot line as well because it wasn't written good and I didn't feel a connection. On the plus side though, I was definitely intrigued from beginning to end and never wanted to put the book down! This is definitely a toss up for me and I've questioned my rating. It is going to be on the lower side but this is still a good read and I definitely want to read the sequel!!

Rating: 6/10
