Top Ten Tuesday

Wow, I haven't participated in a Top Ten Tuesday in awhile! So here goes...this week's topic hosted by Broke and Bookish is....
TOP TEN BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS
I prefer endings in books so here are some of my favorite endings:
(Some contain slight spoilers!)
1. Destined - Aprilynne Pike
SERIOUSLY HAS ANYONE READ THIS?! It's book four in the series and she gives you the option to pick your ending. I chose to keep reading and get the full ending and OMG it was the most heartbreaking ending!
2. Dear John - Nicholas Sparks
THIS QUOTE: "And then I feel as if I'm witnessing a miracle, as ever so slowly she raises her face towards the moon. I watch her drink in the sight, sensing the flood of memories she's unleashed and wanting nothing more than to let her know I'm here. But instead I stay where I am and stare up at the moon as well. And for the briefest instant, it almost feels like we're together again." ABSOLUTELY KILLS ME.
3. Pivot Point - Kasie West
The whole last couple of chapters are just AHHHH. I just cant.
4. A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks
THIS QUOTE: "It is now forty years later, and I can still remember everything from that day. I may be older and wiser, I may have lived another life since then, but I know that when my time eventually comes, the memories of that day will be the final images that float through my mind. I still love her, you see, and I've never removed my ring. In all these years I've never felt the desire to do so...It's still the air of my seventeenth year, and when I finally exhale, I'm fifty-seven once more. But this is okay. I smile slightly, looking toward the sky, knowing there's one thing I still haven't told you: I now believe, by the way, that miracles can happen."
5. Anna and the French Kiss - Stephanie Perkins
"Because I was right. For the two of us, home isn't a place. It's a person."
6. Twenty Boy Summer - Sarah Ockler
I wish I could just put page 289 right here. That whole page is just beautiful. I love the line: "Somewhere below the black frothy ocean, a banished mermaid reads my letters and weeps endlessly for a love she'll never know - not for a single moment." AND "Nothing ever really goes away - it just changes into something else. Something beautiful." (In my opinion, the ending on page 290 just ruins this already beautiful ending on page 289.)
7. Paranormal State - Ryan Buell
So most people probably don't know who Ryan is but he had a show on A&E called Paranormal State. He basically hunts the supernatural and whatnot. I loved the show and I think Ryan is a great role model for people. He wrote an autobiography and the epilogue is my favorite. I love this part of it: "I don't want the mystery to be over this quickly just because I was impatient. It almost feels like cheating. So, I want to let it sit there and see how the rest of the decades of my life pan out. It's a recording. It's not going anywhere. Unless I delete it accidentally. That would suck. But I've got it in a safe spot, carefully marked. Maybe when I'm seventy I'll listen to it. Won't it be scary if I listen to it and it says, 'We'll see you tomorrow.' And that's when I die? There's a quote from Oscar Wilde that sums it up: 'The suspense is unbearable. I hope it lasts.'" LOVE IT.

  1. That was an interesting list of endings. The Nicholas Sparks ones got me to tear-up, but he seems to be good at that. I too liked the quote you give for Paranormal State, it's quite profound.
