I am loving the House of Night series! I really like this take on vampyres and unless I am not aware of any other books out there, I feel like this is a unique twist. While Zoey can get a little annoying sometimes, I love that she is the voice of the book. I just really like her! She has a great group of friends at school - except for the 'Twins', Shaunee and Erin. The twins are just annoying and I don't particularly like their choice of words and names for people such as Aphrodite, the resident mean girl aka the 'Hag from Hell.' But Damien and Stevie Rae are awesome! In the first book Zoey meets Erik Night who is so cute and he acts. In the second book she starts having a little flirtation with Loren who is a professor but he's only in his 20s so it's okay ;) He sounds way hotter then Erik! On top of that Zoey also has Heath, her high school boyfriend who she accidentally imprints on. Both books have pretty decent story lines with book 2 featuring the death of a beloved character (*sad face*) but I wish they were written a little better. The drama that ensues would be awesome if it wasn't cut so short. They do all this work leading up to these dramatic moments that just don't get executed quite well. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Frostbite (Vampire Academy Book 2) - Richelle Mead

Summary: Life is tough for Rose after St. Vladimir's Academy goes on high alert after a major Strigoi attack. The attack brings in extra Guardians - one of them being Rose's mother Janine, Dimitri might be into someone else, and Rose's friend Mason has a huge crush on her. On a mandatory ski trip to Idaho, Rose and her friends will find themselves in a dangerous fight against the Strigoi. 

Frostbite was such a fun read! Even though there was lots of drama, it was nice to see the characters have fun with each other while skiing, though the happiness was short lived. I'm glad we got to see the relationship between Rose and her mother but I'm not a fan of Janine! I wish Rose had a mom that she could really get along with. We got introduced to new characters, as well. I think I like Adrian but I'm not sure. I'm curious to see his role later on. I want to see more of the strange dreams that Rose has with him in them. There was also a death in this book that I won't spoil for anyone - but it was so sad! Looking forward to book three!

Summary: Rose Hathaway is a Dhamphir (a half-human) and guardian to her best friend Lissa Dragomir - a Moroi princess who happens to be a vampire. After running away, the two girls get caught and are brought back to St. Vladimir's Academy. Rose faces many challenges back at the Academy...there's the Strigoi - the most dangerous vampires around and then there's Dimitri - Rose's teacher who is pretty much known as a God around campus.

I tried reading this book a couple of years ago and couldn't get into it but I gave it another shot and fell in love! The book is funny and witty and is actually a pretty decent thrill ride! I think Rose is a really great strong female character (with lots of attitude to book!). I personally think these books are better then Twilight (but I still love the Twilight series, too!).
